The intent was not to go months without writing. The intent was to write weekly to begin nurturing a form of creativity. They say if you exercise your creativity it strengthens and adds more creativeness all throughout your life. I read that somewhere once, I’m sure, there is a possibility. 🙂 Regardless, creating is something we all seem to put on hold during certain seasons in our lives. It is ok that we do that. I am finally in a season where I can and want to.
The Rhythm of a Creative Life
While writing this I am being interrupted (not in a negative way) by children foraging for chickweed and plantain to add to our meal this evening. Yes, this is of their own choosing. Yes, it does add more flavors and nutrients to store bought romaine lettuce.
When the Seasons Shift in Homeschool Life
This desire to forage came from me teaching a coop class this semester on herbalism. I would enlist them to come help me find plants and then make fun things for the class during the week. I didn’t call it school which is what I think made it fun for them. Because sometimes school isn’t fun and that is ok. Upon doing all this we found my old soap making equipment. Before I was pregnant with my third, I would make soap all the time. Purely for the fun of it. That child is now over ten years old and I had not touched the equipment since. We are at a stage of life I can have them help make soaps (with lye), I can get out my needles, fabrics and threads again. Not because I have more time but because some of those items you just can’t have out with little hands. And that is ok. It was a beautiful season of tiny children and now we are moving into a beautiful season of not so tiny children.
This post has no where to go except up from here. Since there wasn’t a point to it when I started. I do need to work on my dry humor coming through a bit more. Perhaps I’ll throw in a ha every now and again for those that do not have dry humor. ha.
Teaching, Crafting, and Possibly Selling What We Make
There is one week of coop left for the semester. As I mentioned above, I taught and herbalism class and had a blast. We made some pretty neat things and drank alot of tea. Do you want to know about what I made and how I made them? Would you rather just purchase them from me? They are things like salves and lotion bars with specific herbal benefits. I might sell somethings that I make in abundance. Tell me your thoughts here friends.
Homeschooling Through the Summer with Creativity
We will be homeschooling through the summer. The goal was not to, but there were too many beautiful days in the fall and now during the spring that we have taken off to be with friends or just enjoy the sun. None of us are complaining about doing school in the summer. During those insanely hot days we tend to get board out of our minds any who. I purchased next years curriculum back in January. Don’t judge me, I like to be prepared 🙂 I’ll try to do a breakdown of what we chose for grade school, middle school and high school courses. Yes, my kids span that right now and I love it.
Garden Goals: A Creative Shire of Our Own
I must wrap this up. I have many things that I need to get into the ground in the garden. I was a bit late planting because I didn’t want these torrential rains we got this weekend washing them away. My goal for the garden is to be creative in it this year, and to make it feel like I’m visiting the shire every time I go out there. Right now it looks like Mordor.
What Are You Creating Lately?
Go create something this week friends! Read a good book and then come back and tell me what you created and read. I shall do the same.
